These designers are thrilled because Solidscape’s precision 3D printing technology allows them to unleash their imagination and push the boundaries of creative design.”
Winning Designs
Capturing the Platinum Award for jewelry the third year in a row is the OG-Art Studio team from Bialystok, Poland. The spectacular Dragon Pendant is a stunning design that features complex geometry and incredible detail requiring the highest precision in 3D printing and casting excellence.
The Gold Award for jewelry is a Chrysanthemum-inspired brooch by Mr. Hiroaki Watanabe of Japan. The variety and sizes of Chrysanthemums symbolically represents a long and peaceful life. The delicate flower petals ironically demand the most extreme precision in 3D printing.
Tied for the Silver Award for jewelry is the exquisite Firebird Pendant by Sri Lanka’s W.A Chamal S Jayaratna. This intricate yet organic design reflects his use of nature and architecture as inspiration.
Also tied for the Silver Award for jewelry is the whimsical Mermaid ring from the House of Wittelsbach in the United States. Their exquisite Nouveau-inspired mermaid combines sculptural fluidity with ornately detailed jewelry.
New for 2015 is the “Fine Art” award category. These unique entrants represent free form expression of non-jewelry designs executed in a manner similar to jewelry. They require mastery of CAD design and Solidscape’s industry-leading high precision 3D printers to create flawlessly castable pieces.
The Platinum Award for fine art is the intricately-detailed Violin figurine from German Oliver Borgardts of Higher Lyrics Art. His dancing violinist hits the high notes in detailed design, capturing the best of human expression.
The Gold Award for fine art is for the “Cassoulet with Phoenix” design by Mr. Hiroaki Watanabe of Japan. His incense box is designed to create a peaceful atmosphere with comfortable scents while the phoenix is a symbol of everlasting peace and long life.
The Silver Award for fine art is the finely-detailed Ballerina figurine from Meenakshi Rawa of India. Her delicate, on point interpretation of this graceful tiny dancer could only be realized by the combination of brilliant CAD design and Solidscape’s industry-leading high precision 3D printers.
Design entries were judged based on successful wax modeling printed by a Solidscape 3D printer, best design (artistry and style), as well as best use of technology (CAD/Solidscape 3D printing). All finalists’ pieces can be found in the design excellence centerpiece at Solidscape’s Baselworld exhibit, Hall 4.U, C24.
