It’s that time of year again- time to reflect on the past 365 days. Solidscape is excited to highlight the amazing works of art, from incredible jewelry pieces to sculptures to programs that help their fellow designers, created in 2016 by talented artists and Solidscape customers.

Solidscape Launches Guest Blog Program

In 2016 Solidscape was proud to present Alexandria Matossian, Designer and Creative Director of Bostonian Jewelers and one of the industry’s early CAD CAM adopters, as our first guest blogger. Alexandria enlightened us with her experience and expertise in jewelry design and restoration. The program launched on April 4th with her first post, How has our 3D printer changed the chain of manufacturing?

Solidscape is always looking for the opportunity to promote customers through the blog. Other designers whose stories headlined our blog were CAMBER Launches Kickstarter for Intricate, Lattice Rings Created on Solidscape High Precision 3D Printers, Tytin Jewelry’s Dream: A Creative and Supportive Hub for Jewelers and Solidscape and Carrera Casting: Here to Help You Survive the Casting Process.

Design Competition at Baselworld

Every year Solidscape gears up to present the Design Competition at Baselworld. We are delighted to see the creativity grow with each annual event. The past two competitions introduced a new category for fine art alongside jewelry. In 2016, many stunning designs ranging from intricate rings to beautiful bowls to detailed statues wowed the judges. The finalists and winners can be seen in our gallery page.

Fabio Esposito, Solidscape President and CEO stated, “This year’s winning designers have again pushed the boundaries of complex geometries and organic shapes that are impossible to produce through traditional hand carving techniques.”

3D-SYSTEM, LLC’s Best Jewelry Design Project Competition at JUNWEX Moscow

This year our partner, 3D-SYSTEM, LLC, launched a Best Jewelry Design Competition of their own to celebrate complex jewelry design only capable with Solidscape 3D Printing technology. The finalists were displayed at jewelry trade show JUNWEX Moscow. The Platinum Award Winner, Nicolas Delouche from France, expressed his thankfulness that 3D design contests such as these give credit to CAD jewelry designers.

“It’s hard to have an opinion of my work. [The] aim was to have pieces with some complexity for 3D print. Detail is a part of it. That’s clear that with systems a part of jewelry is changing. A 3D design seems to have less value than a traditional build one. In my opinion it’s an open door to people who are creative to bring pieces in another dimension, with less physical and time constraint. So happy that people and the jury give credits to this work!”

Whether you’re an experienced CAD jewelry designer or just getting started, you can always learn new best practices. Solidscape teamed up with Carrera Casting to present a new Jewelry Best Practices video series to help you take your jewelry design and production knowledge to new levels. Solidscape extends a big thank you to Master Jeweler and Carrera Casting’s CAD/CAM director Tom Manos for sharing his knowledge and expertise in custom jewelry design and technology. Tom started out making models by hand and became one of the early CAD/CAM adopters in the jewelry industry. He has worked with a wide variety of design programs.
