The team at Solidscape always loves an opportunity to recognize the designers and innovators using technology to transform their ideas from paper into a 3D reality. So as 2017 comes to a close, Solidscape takes a look back at the connections we made during the year with some exceptional individuals who were willing to share their knowledge with others aspiring to follow a similar path to making their own dreams come true.

Annual Solidscape Design Competition

In March, Solidscape featured 43 finalists from around the world at Baselworld and joyously announced the winners of 7 cash prizes. The annual competition is our premiere event and greatest opportunity to meet new designers and become better acquainted with those from previous years.

We always look forward to hearing the stories behind such talented people and the amazingly varied design backgrounds that brought them to the field of jewelry design. It’s fascinating to see how the inspiration for each is so evident in their work.

Tomas Wittelsbach: Sculptor of Jewelry

Tomas Wittelsbach of Ink Metal started his career as a sculptor of animations in the film industry before jewelry caught his curiosity. Tomas’ unique, sculptural approach to jewelry design has produced distinctive product lines and his drive for discovery results in a continual evolution in new materials and ideas.

Tomas uses his expertise in ZBrush to freely design ornate detail into his pieces and because of  Solidscape layered and dissolvable support technology, he is able to maintain a high level of design integrity throughout the manufacturing process.  We admire Tomas’ generosity and we look forward to seeing where his artistry takes him next.

Anton Angheluta: Transferring to the Digital Realm

Anton Angheluta of Copenhagen, Denmark beautifully illustrated his journey from hand carving wax starting in childhood and carried through his varied freelance work sculpting prototypes for industries such as dental prosthetics and miniatures for board games.

A highly skilled sculptor, it was not until he was working for a goldsmith that he experienced the digital world through ZBrush and Solidscape High Precision 3D Printers and was able to realize a higher level of creative freedom without compromise.  We will be watching to see how Anton continues to push the limits of technology and his own talent to do great things in 2018.
